Composition

Named in honour of Shiva, one of the major deities in Hinduism, who is also considered the supreme deity and a symbol of the universe in Hindu mythology. The mat is also a reference to the moon, as Shiva is symbolically connected to the moon with the crescent moon adorning his hair.
The choice of Shiva and the moon reflects a mystical aspect. The moon is more present in yoga than you might think. In Hatha Yoga, “Ha” means sun, and “Tha” represents the moon. It symbolises the union between the sun and moon, the perfect balance sought by yogis. The moon also represents the feminine principle. In Ashtanga Yoga, it is recommended not to practice during the full and new moons.
Just as the sun salutation, the moon salutation is a sequence of poses meant to honour the moon at each of its phases. The moon and sun are models of balance for humanity: finding balance between darkness and light is central to the practice of yoga.

Care tips

- Always roll the mat with the top side facing outwards. Rolling in the opposite direction can damage the surface.
- Wipe the top of the mat with a soft cloth after use (avoid microfibre cloths as they are too abrasive). If using a cleaning solution, apply it to the cloth first; do not apply it directly to the mat.
- To protect the mat’s surface, avoid applying lotions, creams, or wearing rings on hands or feet during practice.
- Avoid storing the mat in cabinets or spaces with sharp edges that could leave lasting marks.
Attention:
Do not clean the mat with black soap, as its olive oil and vegetable soda base can irreversibly damage the mat.
